A SIMPLE JOB
You’re an experienced arms for hire on what should have been an easy job for decent silver. Escort the wizards through the subterranean caverns to the Guild, carry their heavy packs, and hopefully be back to town in time to catch the last round at the tavern. You couldn’t have been more wrong.
The tallest wizard had been the first to die. The sound of jagged teeth gnashing against his crumbling bones haunts your memory. Your stomach churns and threatens to empty itself but you know its contents are long gone.
Your raw and bloodied skin scrapes against the jagged rock wall in all the places that your leather armor has worn away. You keep pushing forward through the tight crevice. Resting isn’t an option. Trying to stay upright and on your feet, you force yourself forward, one step at a time.
Scrape, scrape, the leather armor continues to shred. You can still see the rows and rows of sharp teeth and glowing green eyes. You can still hear the wizards’ screams.
When the passage finally opens up to a larger area, you sit down to try and get your bearings. A deep shudder racks your body and your only thought as you violently shake is that you will die here.
The faint sound of water dripping catches your attention. You examine your surroundings more closely and see a shallow pool of water formed from a grouping of multicolored stalactites hanging directly above.
As you try to hoist yourself up to get a better look, the heel of your boot catches on something. Upon examination you realize it’s a rusty iron ring to open a hidden hatch in the cave floor.

Drink from the mysterious pool of water [requires Constitution check].
Use your last spell to open the hidden hatch.
Search the cave for any useful items or mushrooms [requires Perception check].
Search the wizard’s pack you were carrying for something to open the hatch with.
Rifle through the wizard’s pack and look for something to eat. It’s been so long since you’ve eaten anything.
Leave. You’ll take your chances retracing your steps.
