HAUNTED MAGE HANDS
☾ You’ve been staying in the Wizard’s castle for over a week now and the vague sense of foreboding has yet to dissipate. The stale air and heavy, shroud-like curtains entombing the floor-to-ceiling windows hasn’t helped you shake off any of your initial misgivings. Neither have the strange noises or the constant feeling that you’re being watched.
THE YOUNG MAGE
You’re an inexperienced mage filled with the kind of over-confidence that only the combination of too much untested knowledge and youth can produce. Your bravado never falters, even as a thick blanket of stillness drapes over the surrounding woods.
A SIMPLE JOB
You’re an experienced arms for hire on what should have been an easy job for decent silver. Escort the wizards through the subterranean caverns to the Guild, carry their heavy packs, and hopefully be back to town in time to catch the last round at the tavern. You couldn’t have been more wrong.
Scales - Random Music Production Tables
Ever want to use random tables and roll for the structure or sounds of the song you’re about to create? At Dungeon Divers United we’re working on that for you wonderful adventurers. Use this table and a d6 to roll for scales, or use the javascript d6 button in the blog post.
MONSTER FACTORY
This short adventure prompt is a tale of a nearby mountain, beautiful above ground, and full of magically constructed monstrosities below. There’s a secretive and evil merchant’s guild running things too. Right into the ground.
GHOST HAMMER
Your quest begins in a smoky, loud, and bustling forge, where the smithing is dead serious and the heat is near lethal.

TEARS BEHIND THE PAINTED TREE
Your quest begins in a quiet, idyllic forest that runs along the mountain-facing wall of a picturesque fortress. The backside of this fortress is secured against attack. It’s quiet here and has been peaceful for hundreds of years.
Read more if this sounds like a great place for your players to kick off a new campaign, or if you need a quick idea to work into your one-shot game.
THE CRYSTALLINE MINE
If you need an idea to kick off a new campaign, this might be it. The Crystalline Mine starts off underground surrounded by crystals and quickly heads leads players to action when a rotten old wizard finds a portal to a hellish realm.
MOUNTAIN WITCH
The sound of rain fills your heart heavily. It’s the sound of cold. Of discomfort. Of treacherous terrain ahead. It used to be the sound of relaxation and a reminder that your garden will grow. You used to love it. Until the Mountain Witch stole that which is irreplaceable to you. Your puppy.
A CHEF’S KNIFE
It’s dinner time at the campsite. Is it your favorite time, considering these meals happen so rarely when on such a long quest? It could be.
THE SCALED CLERIC
You wake up on an obsidian slab in a beautifully carved cave of marble… and there’s a scaled cleric in the room. What are you going to do?
This short story is meant to be a homebrew ttrpg campaign starter. Feel free to use this story with your players to kick off your own campaign, and please share the link with your friends who run games.

BANNER OF DOOM
☾ Your quest begins under the beaming moonlight on smoldering, eerily quiet battlefield, where you awaken abruptly. The battle is over. You don’t recall why you are there, and you don’t recognize the parties on either side of this fight. You get up, gather yourself, and decide to walk out of there.
CLAIRVOYANCE LVL.99
This is the second tiny adventure prompt I wrote for Dungeon Divers United. It was inspired by dark fantasy elements, Elden Ring, and ttrpgs. It became a shirt design as well as a short story and embodies so much of what I love about these genres (plus crystal balls!)
