THE SEA SWORD
The plans your family laid out for you were never your own. You spent countless hours daydreaming about wandering all over that worn world map given to you an age ago by a generous librarian who also happened to be your uncle.
That map helped you escape the cage of your family’s design. Your travels have been ongoing for longer than you can recall. Yet this isn’t the kind of travelling that you imagined. This wasn’t part of your big adventure.
You and a few others are drifting at sea. It’s night, and though the stars light the sky, you can’t see into the water below you outside of a murky and dark abyssal scene.
Just a couple of hours ago you were on a transport heading to an island fortress. Not just any island fortress. Your destination was the famous castle Santalissia, the home of the fabled Sea Sword.
Guarded by a false queen proficient in dark aquatic arts, the Sea Sword (whose real name is Lasidoth, the Shark’s Bane) attracts many adventurers who would try to claim it for its magic, and others who want it for the sake of becoming a legendary treasure hunter. Why did you want it again?
Your toes are numb, floating in your boots, letting you know you ride next to death. As you cling to your small part of the shipwreck for dear life, you relive the gilled men attacking the ship from the water. It was likely the queen’s guard. You’ll surely see more of them if you reach the castle.
You hear several voices of other survivors in the water alongside you start to shout. You can make out a silhouetted shape in the eerie mists up ahead. It’s the castle. By the gods, somehow, you all drifted right to Santalissia. You’ll be able to reach the docks near the southeast area of the island and climb up and out of the frigid sea.
Right then a thought crosses your mind. Are you the only one here to steal Lasidoth? Or are some of the others here for it too?
☾ So, how will you proceed?
Get out of the water safely, then start helping others.
Get out of the water quickly, and dash toward Santalissia, the others can drown.
Help get the others out, form a party, search for a village outside the fortress.
Gather materials to start a fire and make camp for the night [Requires Nature check].
You have nothing but your clothes. Save the others and try to steal from one of them.
Leave. Keep floating and see where it takes you.
