Random Music Tables 5 - Feelings To Start Your Song With

Roll a d6 and let fate decide the feel of your next track.

If there’s one thing your deeply atmospheric subgenre of dungeon synth evokes, it’s feelings.

The books, games, and forgotten spaces that illuminate our musical pathways would be easily forgotten if they didn’t strike a chord within us. We cling to the feelings that are evoked from them and commit them to memory as they resonate outwardly from us.

The fear of the unknown down there in the darkest of dungeons, waiting to find you if you let it.

The longing for something you never really were meant to have or hold on to, but love dearly nonetheless.

The peace of a shaded wood where birdsong fills the spaces in the trees between the sparkling sunlight making its way through the treetops.

The desire for peace or perhaps a dragon’s hoarded treasures.

The obsession with seeing one’s dreams come true causing you to pursue your dream at all costs.

The curiosity to step into dark depths and uncover something deep within you.

It’s all there waiting to be written, and one of the greatest things about dungeon synth are the stories they tell and the feelings we bask in when listening to them unwind. Whether you write DS or something else, you should get started on that next sonic journey right now.

There are six choices for you on this table to start a new song with. There are more options lying around the dungeon, but use those some other time. For now, you should roll a six-sided die and let fate take the wheel. (You can also use the d6 roller below.)

My Roll On The Random Table Of Feelings

A Quiet Field of Fallen Friends - DEMO
Seance Prism

I rolled a two, and longing was my result. After a little thought, I had two ideas that could combine into a new song for the album I’m working on.

The first is that I’ve moved away from a lot of friends and family and I long to see them so often, yet I can’t. Not so easily anyway. It’s a reminder that time isn’t on your side, so you’d better use it wisely.

The other thought was more based in fiction. What would longing look like in the world I’m building with SUNVOID? I think it would look like those around you fallen and gone, taken away by systems working against the innocent and powerless. It might look like the player character in your campaign, standing in a quiet field of fallen friends, wishing for them to come back from the dead.

The demo for this song is posted below. It’s a quick demo, but enough for me to convey the feeling of longing to you.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for listening. I hope you roll something on this table that pulls an amazing song out of you.

If you roll on this or another one of the random music production tables please send a link, Instagram is the easiest for me but you can also use the contact form on this site to send a link. I may not respond but I’ll get around to listening to them all.
